21st Mid-Amateur Four-Ball Championship

History

First played in 2004 at Poppy Ridge, the NCGA Mid-Amateur Four-Ball Championship is a two-person, better-ball scratch event for NCGA members 25 years of age and older (from 2004-2015 it was called the NCGA Master Division Four-Ball Championship for players 40 and older). The duo of Terry Foreman and James Hay won the first three championships, and in 2008 Hay won a fourth championship with partner Mark Hill. In 2014 the event returned to Poppy Ridge. The tourney record for low 36-hole score is 124, set by 2020 winners Nick Moore and Matt Cohn (the event was held at Poppy Hills and par-72 Del Monte GC) and matched by AJ Collishaw and John Stembridge in 2023. The 18-hole record is 12-under 59, shot by 2022 champions Brett Viboch and Bobby Bucey. The 59 is the lowest score for any NCGA scratch four-ball event. Hay and Haag share the record with four career victories.

2016

Olympic Club members and pals Jason Anthony and Randy Haag had another special moment at the NCGA owned course on Tuesday, shooting a final round 6-under 65 to come from behind and win the 13th annual NCGA Mid-Amateur Four-Ball Championship by one over the tandem of Steve Woods and Jeff Gilchrist.

2017

Mark Hill and Brandon Toll made the biggest move in regulation, but it was longtime pals Danny Paniccia and Mike Stieler who came out on top when it mattered the most. Paniccia and Stieler made birdie on the first hole of a three-team sudden-death playoff.

2018

Randy Haag finally got the win he wanted so badly. Defending NCGA Player of the Year Jason Anthony got to be a part of it. Haag and Anthony, who first met when they were paired together for the annual Hanna-Wehrman Cup matches a few years ago, claimed their second NCGA Mid-Amateur Four-Ball title in three years.

2019

When the winning putt finally fell in, Mike Stieler looked at partner Danny Paniccia and raised his fists to the sky. Stieler, the superintendent at Spring Creek GC, sank a 9-foot putt on the NCGA record 11th hole of a sudden-death playoff (the par-4 17th) at Poppy Hills Golf Course to win.

2020

Matt Cohn and Nick Moore had come close numerous times in NCGA Four-Ball Championships before. Between the NCGA Four-Ball Championship and NCGA Mid-Amateur Four-Ball Championship, the duo had strung together six top 10 finishes since 2017.

2021

Longtime friends Bobby Bucey and Brett Viboch picked up their second NCGA Four-Ball title. On Tuesday, Bucey, who plays out of Oakhurst CC, and Viboch, an E-Club Sacramento member, carded a final round 6-under 65 to roll to a four shot victory

Coming into this year's NCGA Mid-Amateur Four-Ball Championship, defending champions and friends Brett Viboch and Bobby Bucey opted to skip getting in a practice round.

AJ Collishaw and John Stembridge opened with a sizzling 11-under 60 and never looked back, cruising to a four-shot win over runner-ups Stephen Sparolini and Kyle Gentry.
