21st Annual NCGA Valley and Senior Valley Amateur Championship
June 3-4 | Winchester CC
History
Played for the first time in 2004 as a replacement for the San Joaquin and Sacramento Valley championships, the NCGA Valley Amateur has become a staple in the tournament season.
Drawing exceptional players during the late summer, the Valley Amateur has 500 points up for grabs to the champion at a time when the Player-of-the-Year race is coming to a close.
The 36-hole stroke play event is played at a venue in the San Joaquin or Sacramento valley each year and provides a top-level championship opportunity. Nick Moore and Jason Anthony are the only players to have won the championship three times.
A senior division is also held with past champions including several Senior Player of the Year honorees: Carl Selkirk, Gary Vanier, Jim Knoll and Jeff Burda. Vanier and Mark Morgan are the only three-time winners of the senior division. Knoll is the only other multiple-time winner, winning in 2008 at Winchester CC and again in 2011 at Riverbend GC.
Mike Perchak carded a championship and NCGA record low 12-under 61 in 2023 at Dragonfly GC in Madera. Perchak's 36-hole score of 18-under 128 also set a championship record. In 2015, Nick Moore defeated Blake Hathcoat in a 9-hole sudden death playoff. With his win in 2016, Moore became the first player to win the Valley Am three times. Anthony matched the feat when he won in 2021.
2020 Senior champ Jeff Wilson, 2021 champ Jeff Burda and 2023 champ Casey Boyns share the Senior championship record for total score of 138.

Recaps
2019
Jason Melvin had admittedly been in a bit of a slump. Any bad mojo from that is now gone. Melvin, who plays out of Bayonet/Black Horse GC, captured his first NCGA title, posting a final round 3-under 69 Tuesday at par-72 Oakdale Golf and Country Club to win the annual Valley Amateur Championship by three shots over a group of four players.
2020
Jason Anthony, the NCGA’s defending Player of the Year, hasn’t played much at all this season. Along with getting married, the 37-year-old Anthony became a dad. And with COVID-19, he’s opted to not play as much to protect his newborn. In what was a rare appearance, Anthony still showed he’s one of the best amateurs in NorCal.
2021
Former NCGA Player of the Year Jason Anthony is making the best of what has become limited opportunities. On Tuesday, Anthony fired a final-round 5-under 67 at Whitehawk Ranch GC that included a clutch eagle on the closing par-5 18th, and later defeated John McCord and Brett Viboch in a sudden-death playoff to capture the annual NCGA Valley Amateur Championship for a record-tying third time.
2022
Ben Hogan once said that the most important shot in golf is the next one. At this year’s NCGA Valley Amateur, the event would come down to the last few shots. In what became a thriller (and heartbreaker for some), Kevin Cook took the title after posting a final round 5-under 67 at The Reserve at Spanos Park to come in with a 36-hole total of 7-under 137.
2023
Mike Perchak shot an NCGA record 18-hole score of 12-under 61 en route to winning his first NCGA title. In the Senior Championship, 67-year-old NCGA Hall of Famer won his 11th Senior title after defeating Steve Schroeder in a playoff.
