20th NCGA Women's and 17th NCGA Senior Women's Amateur Championships
June 17-19 | PoppyHills
History
The NCGA Women’s Amateur Championship is the association’s premier events for female golfers. There are newspaper records that prove the event was held as far back as 1903. Edith Chesebrough was a five-time champion of the event (1911, 1912, 1916, 1918, 1920).
It is not known when the event was discontinued. Since its resurrection in 2005, the stroke play tournament has quickly become a fixture on the competitive calendar.
The 36-hole tournament record of 5-under-par 139 was set in 2016 by champion Camille Orito. Lynne Cowan is the only multiple-year winner, securing titles in back-to-back years 2006 and 2007. The 18-hole scoring record is 64, shot by Antonia Malate in 2023.
The Senior Women’s championship is for players aged 50 and over. Lynne Cowan holds the Senior Women’s 36-hole scoring record with a 144 in 2016. Lynne Cowan holds the Senior record with four wins.
In 2021, both championships were extended to 54 holes with a 36-hole cut.

2018
Despite the difficult windy conditions on the back nine, Antonia Malate finished with a bang. Malate played her final seven holes in one-under par, including a 12-foot birdie putt on the final green to cap off her first NCGA title in the Women’s Amateur Championship at Poppy Hills GC. Her final round 79 gave her a two day total of 10-over 154 and a one-shot victory over Arielle Swan-Smith
2019
Rei Nakatani may not have won in a while, but she sure looked comfortable coming down the stretch at the annual NCGA Women’s Amateur Championship. After starting the final round three strokes behind the lead, Nakatani shot a bogey-free 3-under 33 on the back nine to cap off the low round of the tournament, 3-under 69, and take the title at Poppy Hills. Her tournament total of even-par 144 earned her a two-shot victory over first round leader Annika Borrelli.
2020
For some players, a double-bogey, bogey start in the final round could lead to an eventual drop off the cliff. San Mateo resident Faith Low stumbled, but never let it get her down. Low, a Youth on Course and Junior Tour of Northern California member, shook off the early stumble, carding a final round even-par 72 to win the annual NCGA Women’s Amateur on a sunny Tuesday at Poppy Hills Golf Course.
2021
Just last week, Alamo resident Annika Borrelli failed to get through a U.S. Women’s Amateur qualifier. The poor results literally left her in tears. Among those consoling her was her dad, Dave, and her coach at the University of San Francisco, Sara Doell. “After talking with my coach, she just told me to remember to have fun out there. Not to press early,” said Borrelli, a senior on the USF women’s golf squad.
2022
The last few months have been a whirlwind for Rocklin resident Kaylyn Noh. Back in May, Noh won the Big West individual title and was named Big West Player of the Year. Then, she decided to return closer to home, transferring to Cal-Berkeley. While she has yet to tee it up for the Bears, she’s already left an impression on some of her new teammates.
2023
San Jose State alum Antonia Malate shot a championship record 64 en route to her second title, while Tina Barker won her second title in three years.
